Located in Davie, Florida, our dentists use sedation dentistry to help patients relax during dental procedures. One Dental Studio is one of the only Davie dental practices to provide advanced sedation dentistry services - from light sedatives that wear off once your treatment is complete to sleep dentistry featuring deep sedation and general anesthesia.
Am I A Good Candidate For Sedation Dentistry?
Although sedatives are prescribed for a number of different reasons, they are typically most appropriate for people who suffer from anxiety while in the dental chair.
Sedation dentistry may also be appropriate for people who:
- Have a low pain threshold
- Can't sit still in the dentist's chair due to health reasons or special needs
- Suffer from tooth and mouth sensitivity
- Require a large amount of dental work completed
Before prescribing sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry, our doctors review your medical history to ensure the right safe sedation option is selected for you.
Sedation Dentistry Options
There a multiple levels of sedation dentistry that we use at our Davie dental office. They include:
- Minimal Sedation: You are awake but relaxed
- Moderate Sedation: You remain conscious but may not remember much of your procedure
- Deep Sedation/Sleep Dentistry: You are mainly asleep during procedures
Laughing Gas
Dental anxiety can prevent many patients from visiting the dentist for checkups and much-needed dental work. If dental appointments make you anxious, our doctors can administer laughing gas to help you feel more at ease during your visit. At One Dental Studio, laughing gas is administered using a mask, allowing you to feel more at ease within minutes. Most of our patients are good candidates for this treatment.
Oral Sedation
IV Sedation (Moderate)
With moderate IV sedation, our doctors administer the medication intravenously. With IV sedation, the dentist has the power to fully control and adjust the amount of medication that you are receiving, as the procedure is happening. Because of this, it's not unusual for patients to fall asleep during their procedure.
Moderate IV sedation is usually prescribed to patients who suffer from burdensome dental anxiety or those who are undergoing a long procedure. If you are afraid of the needles, our doctors are happy to prescribe you an oral sedative to help you relax beforehand.
Deep Sedation And General Anesthesia
Deep sedation and general anesthesia is prescribed to patients who suffer from extreme dental anxiety or those who are undergoing a long or complex procedure. With this type of strong sedative, you can expect to fall fully asleep during your procedure.
Remember, if you take any form of sedation dentistry, you cannot drive following your procedure. Make sure you have a friend or family member transport you to and from your appointment.
